Marjo Curgus launched Del Corazon Consulting in May 2014 after
years of dreaming about how she might better apply her passion and experience to helping organizations and communities to do the good, but challenging, work of community change.
Marjo has 16 years of experience in organizational and program
leadership, community development, and community planning.
While her project portfolio is diverse, it has maintained four
consistent themes: empowering communities to identify
solutions to challenging problems; supporting collaborative
outcomes; providing effective strategic organizational leadership;
and creating new and innovative methods and tools.
She honed her skills working as both a consultant and in leadership positions at intermediary technical assistance non-profits. Prior to launching Del Corazon Consulting, she spent 3 years as Associate Director of Programs at the Orton Family Foundation working on the 5-year $10 million Heart & Soul initiative. She came to the Foundation from the Sonoran Institute where she spent five and-a-half years as Director of the Community Leadership & Training Program. Her work there focused primarily on providing planning technical assistance and capacity building workshops to rural western communities struggling with tensions resulting from rapid growth and demographic changes. Before moving to Colorado, she spent three years as a consultant in community planning
and public process facilitation working throughout New Mexico on land use, economic development, and collaborative policy making. Finally, it was her five years as a Program Director of Enterprise Foundation - AmeriCorps working to build community in low income neighborhoods that inspired her to pursue a masters. She received her degree in 2004 from the University of New Mexico in Community & Regional Planning with an emphasis in natural resources.
She lives in Denver, Colorado and when not at work, enjoys exploring the Rocky Mountains by bike, paddle board, kayak or skis.
